Books I have read, lately- most recent first.


	Gears of War Aspho Fields Autore: Karen Traviss ISBN: 0345499433	This was also a quick and fun read (of course, I'm a fan of this game, as well). Back story on Marcus and Dom- now I know why Marcus wound up in prison. Much more (no spoilers from me).

	The Cole Protocol (Halo) Autore: Tobias S. Buckell ISBN: 076531570X	Fun to read, especially if you're a fan of the game. Back story on Capt. Keyes, and an unlikely human-Jackal alliance, to boot.

	Brisingr (Inheritance, Book 3) Autore: Christopher Paolini ISBN: 0375826726	The young master Paolini has borrowed a leaf from Philip Jose Farmer (at least a few will understand the reference, I hope) and his planned trilogy has become a four book cycle. I hate having to wait for the next book- but this was worth waiting for...

	The Lensman Series Autore: E. E. Smith	I read all six of them, from the prequel "Triplanetary" to the final "Children of the Lens". "Doc" Smith's classic and seminal space opera- a story of intergalactic warfare between high-tech civilizations, one pure dictatorship, one stressing liberty.

	The Rights of Man Autore: Thomas Paine	Thomas Paine's essays on the French Revolution, largely in response to Edmund Burke's treatises on the subject. Some of his ideas would be deemed progressive or even ultra-liberal to this day [e.g. a 100% income tax bracket]... Worth the time it took.

	The Master of Ballantrae: A Winter's Tale Autore: Robert Louis Stevenson ISBN: 1103524674	I got to the end and thought- NO!!!! There has to be more (even though it was a fitting end)! A classic tale of conflict between two brothers- well worth the time. More to old Bob than just "Treasure Island" and "Kidnapped".

A local author. It's proof I'll read just about anything if I feel the need to. But it's clear that Harlequin romances just don't do it for me. So it goes...

	Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (Book 7) Autore: J. K. Rowling ISBN: 0545010225	A fitting end to a fine series. Don't know what Ms Rowling may do next, but her initial series has been a magnificent and most enjoyable reading experience. I still read them [and I have the entire set, of course].

	Contact Harvest (Halo) Autore: Joseph Staten ISBN: 0765315696	Prequel to the previous Halo books- origin of the hierarchs Truth, Mercy, Regret, brute choppers, why humanity was to be exterminated, and more. Could have done without the final adult content, but I suppose in this century that's unavoidable.

	HARD TIMES FOR THESE TIMES. Autore: Charles Dickens	The 19th century master describes some of the dehumanizing effects of the Industrial Revolution and other trends of his era. Masterful and moving, always showing the author's insight and compassion for his fellow beings.
